You hear people rave about the awesome massage they had. Others can’t wait until they can book one. Some people even have a regular appointment. But you just aren’t sure about getting a massage. And you think you must be the only person who feels a little nervous at the thought. You’re not. We promise.
If you haven’t booked a massage with one of our great therapists because you are worried about feeling uncomfortable, here are some things to keep in mind:
- Your massage therapist is concerned about your comfort! Our massage therapists will do all they can to help you feel comfortable. This includes talking to you about your expectations and concerns before your session begins. One of the main purposes of a massage is to help you feel relaxed, so talk about your anxiety with your therapist. Keep in mind that many massage therapists are quiet during a massage to allow you to relax and to focus on doing a good job. But this doesn’t mean you can’t talk during a massage! If you have a question or request, voice it.
- Worried about taking off your clothes? This is probably one of the most common misconceptions about massage. You do not have to disrobe completely! You can undress to your comfort level. And you will be draped during the massage. If you do prefer to remain completely clothed, your clothes may keep you from feeling the full benefits of the massage. So you’ll want to keep that in mind when you are picking out what to wear.
- It should not be painful. If you are experiencing pain, let your massage therapist know. Massage therapists are highly trained. So if you are experiencing pain or discomfort, your therapist will want to know. If you have any medical issues that might cause pain, remember to mention those during the consultation before your session begins.
It’s not uncommon to be nervous before a massage – especially if you’ve never had one or if you are going to a new massage therapist. That’s why our massage therapists will always start with a consultation. This experience is about you!
